Renewable Energy Consultancy with York Council

Energy Oasis secured a consultancy tender with York Council to install onshore wind turbines in Wigginton and develop a solar charging hub at Grimston Bar Park-and-Ride, significantly boosting renewable energy capacity and reducing carbon emissions.

York Council has committed to achieving net zero carbon by 2030, so sought a Net Zero partner who could deliver innovative and impactful renewable energy projects. Through a competitive consultancy tender process, Energy Oasis was selected for our proven expertise in sustainable energy solutions and our extensive experience delivering Net Zero solutions in North Yorkshire. The collaboration focuses on enhancing renewable energy generation and supporting local sustainability goals.

The initiative focused on two major projects:

  • Wigginton Wind Turbine: Installation of a 2 MW wind turbine, strategically positioned to integrate into the local grid and potentially serve nearby facilities such as the wastewater treatment plant.

  • Grimston Bar Solar Hub: Development of a 30 MW solar array to power electric vehicle chargers and university buildings, aiding the transition to renewable energy in the region.

Project Background

The feasibility studies set the stage for these projects to substantially increase renewable energy capacity in York and assist the region in its shift to sustainable energy practices.

“City of York Council is committed to tackling the climate emergency and supporting York to be net zero carbon by 2030. These projects create significant opportunities for new renewable energy generation, reducing carbon emissions, improving supply security, and creating employment opportunities. We’re looking forward to working with Energy Oasis on this project.”
