Decarbonising Dalton Industrial Estate: A Net Zero Assessment

Energy Oasis partnered with North Yorkshire Council to conduct a Net Zero Assessment for Dalton Industrial Estate, funded by Innovate UK, to create a sustainable pathway for 28 businesses.

Located near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, Dalton Industrial Estate is home to 28 businesses. With electricity demand expected to double in the coming years, this project aims to set a blueprint for rural industrial estates.

Project Background

Energy Oasis conducted a comprehensive 12-month feasibility study, structured in five phases to ensure effective outcomes:

  • Business Needs Assessments: Evaluated each business’s needs in terms of power, heat, materials, and transport.

  • Quick Win Reductions: Implemented immediate actions to reduce emissions.

  • Shared Onsite Opportunities: Explored shared resources and infrastructure enhancements.

  • Offsite Interventions: Proposed offsite solutions to support decarbonisation.

  • Knowledge Sharing: Compiled and shared best practices with other industrial estates.

Our Approach

The feasibility study culminated in detailed, actionable plans for each business, emphasising:

  • Energy Efficiency Enhancements: Infrastructure upgrades to cut energy use.

  • Renewable Energy Integration: Adoption of solar and wind energy.

  • Sustainable Transport Initiatives: Introduction of low-emission vehicles.

  • Resource Optimisation: Better resource management to minimise waste.

“The feasibility study at Dalton Industrial Estate exemplifies our commitment to driving sustainable change. This project is the blueprint for all other former World War II air bases, now industrial estates, in the UK. It sets a benchmark for similar initiatives.” — Mike Kaye, Founder of Energy Oasis
