Harlow Tennis
Harlow Tennis Club, located on Plantation Road in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, is a thriving sports hub with a growing membership of over 300. The club is happy to say it’s the friendliest tennis club in Harrogate, offering coaching and opportunities for men, women, and mixed teams in local leagues. As a community club, they have a strong commitment not to leave anyone behind and this is evidenced by the outreach to members of the community with dementia and local people feeling isolated.
The club recently embarked on a significant project to upgrade its existing floodlights to energy-efficient LED lamps with local energy management experts, Energy Oasis.
Project Background
Understanding the importance of high-quality, energy-efficient lighting for sports facilities, Energy Oasis conducted a comprehensive assessment of Harlow Tennis Club's existing lighting system. Our approach was designed to deliver superior lighting performance while maximising energy savings and future-proofing the club’s infrastructure.
Our Approach
Our Innovative Solution
The LED conversion has brought numerous benefits to Harlow Tennis Club, including:
Improved Illumination: The new LED floodlights are LTA compliant for outdoor courts. They provide brighter and more consistent lighting across all courts, enhancing the playing experience for members.
Obsolete Bulbs: In the last few years sodium lamps have been phased out in favour of more energy-efficient lighting technologies such as LEDs, due to their environmental damage in disposal and the energy cost of operating them. The changes made have removed all of these obsolete bulbs.
Energy Efficiency: LED technology significantly reduces energy consumption, leading to lower utility bills and a smaller carbon footprint.
Cost Savings: The club was able to access Section 106 funding from the council, which helped offset some of the capital costs associated with the LED lighting upgrade. This funding facilitated long-term savings on energy expenses and reduced maintenance needs. As a result, the club is able to enjoy enhanced financial sustainability, ensuring that resources can be redirected towards further community and club development initiatives.
Community Engagement: The project exemplifies successful local collaboration, resulting in lasting improvements that benefit the entire community.

Client Testimonial
“The conversion of our old floodlights to new LED lamps has made a significant improvement to the facilities we offer to our members. The LED floodlights provide a great level of illumination across the whole playing surfaces and enable us to use all our courts during evenings and the winter months. The main benefits are instant light (no time delay as with the old lamps), all four courts now lit, no dark patches or glare, flexible payment arrangements (contactless card payment as well as cash meters).
We approached a number of specialist sports arena lighting contractors for quotes, and chose Energy Oasis because of their professional approach, experience, price, and the fact they were local and able to provide quick support during installation and in the long-term. Mike and Danny have been excellent in managing the installation process, answering our queries and adjusting the proposal as needed, dealing with unplanned events, and providing regular communications throughout the process. We are delighted with the end result and are happy to recommend Energy Oasis to other sports clubs considering LED conversion.”
