Harlow Tennis Club Aces Efficient Lighting Upgrade with Energy Oasis

Energy Oasis helped Harlow Tennis Club enhance their facilities by upgrading its existing floodlights to energy-efficient LED lamps. This project not only improved illumination but also reduced energy consumption, ensuring long-term cost savings and sustainability.

Harlow Tennis Club, located on Plantation Road in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, is a thriving sports hub with a growing membership of over 300. The club is happy to say it’s the friendliest tennis club in Harrogate, offering coaching and opportunities for men, women, and mixed teams in local leagues. As a community club, they have a strong commitment not to leave anyone behind and this is evidenced by the outreach to members of the community with dementia and local people feeling isolated.

The club recently embarked on a significant project to upgrade its existing floodlights to energy-efficient LED lamps with local energy management experts, Energy Oasis.

Project Background

Understanding the importance of high-quality, energy-efficient lighting for sports facilities, Energy Oasis conducted a comprehensive assessment of Harlow Tennis Club's existing lighting system. Our approach was designed to deliver superior lighting performance while maximising energy savings and future-proofing the club’s infrastructure.

Our Approach

Energy Oasis, also based in Harrogate, specialising in energy management and carbon reduction, was selected to implement the LED conversion project. With over ten years of experience in delivering sports lighting solutions, we were well-equipped to meet the club's needs.

Assessment and Planning: We conducted a detailed evaluation of the existing lighting setup and developed a customised plan for the LED upgrade.

Installation: Scheduled for early June, the installation process was designed to ensure minimal disruption to the club’s activities. The chosen LED lamps were selected for their efficiency, durability, and superior performance.

Our Innovative Solution

The LED conversion has brought numerous benefits to Harlow Tennis Club, including:

  • Improved Illumination: The new LED floodlights are LTA compliant for outdoor courts. They provide brighter and more consistent lighting across all courts, enhancing the playing experience for members.

  • Obsolete Bulbs: In the last few years sodium lamps have been phased out in favour of more energy-efficient lighting technologies such as LEDs, due to their environmental damage in disposal and the energy cost of operating them. The changes made have removed all of these obsolete bulbs.

  • Energy Efficiency: LED technology significantly reduces energy consumption, leading to lower utility bills and a smaller carbon footprint.

  • Cost Savings: The club was able to access Section 106 funding from the council, which helped offset some of the capital costs associated with the LED lighting upgrade. This funding facilitated long-term savings on energy expenses and reduced maintenance needs. As a result, the club is able to enjoy enhanced financial sustainability, ensuring that resources can be redirected towards further community and club development initiatives.

  • Community Engagement: The project exemplifies successful local collaboration, resulting in lasting improvements that benefit the entire community.
