JT Atkinson
JT Atkinson, a well-known building supplies company, was consuming between £14,000 and £16,000 of electricity per site, with approximately 90% of this being attributed to lighting. They sought an energy partner to help them improve their energy efficiency and reduce costs across their various locations. They invested in our consultancy expertise to identify and implement alternative energy solutions.
Project Background
Energy Oasis began by surveying all JT Atkinson sites to identify potential energy-saving opportunities and develop a customised plan for each location. Through the installation of Solar PV systems, energy monitoring, LED lighting upgrades, and other innovative solutions, we aimed to significantly reduce their energy consumption and costs.
Our Approach
Our Solutions
-
After surveying their sites, we determined that Solar PV would be an ideal solution for JT Atkinson, enabling them to generate their own energy and reduce on-site electricity consumption. We installed 30kW of solar PV on 25 of their sites and 50kW on one site through a sub-contractor, resulting in a 7-year return on investment and 20 years of index-linked revenue.
-
To accurately track energy savings, we installed energy monitoring systems at two of their sites. This allowed us to identify anomalies in energy consumption and make data-driven recommendations for improvements.
-
Energy Oasis collaborated with UK and American LED manufacturers to source intelligent, flexible LED lights with easy-to-use controls, energy efficiency, and easy replacement of transformers and drivers. We undertook a systematic program to re-lamp all 25 of JT Atkinson's sites with these LED lights, resulting in substantial energy savings.
-
We installed emergency lighting and external lighting solutions, incorporating PIR, microwave, and daylight harvesting technologies to ensure optimal energy efficiency and safety.
-
We are currently evaluating the performance of infrared heating panels at one of JT Atkinson's sites to determine their effectiveness and potential for further implementation across other locations.
-
Throughout the project, Energy Oasis worked closely with JT Atkinson's directors and branch managers to develop a comprehensive project plan, establish goals, and ensure that all solutions met their specific needs. Our collaborative approach allowed us to deliver tailored energy management solutions that maximized efficiency and cost savings.
The energy-saving initiatives implemented across JT Atkinson's sites led to a 75% reduction in energy consumption. Each site now saves approximately £3,400 per year through feed-in tariffs and deemed export, reducing their electricity costs to around £3,150 per site. We continue to explore energy storage options to further cut energy bills.
Results
Following the success of our initial energy-saving project with JT Atkinson, we continued our partnership to further reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs.
Across multiple sites, we have implemented solar installations and energy efficiency measures that have resulted in substantial CO2 savings, including:
Energy Monitoring at 6 sites
LED lighting (internal and external) at 13 sites
Emergency lighting at 13 sites
Radiant heating panels at 4 sites
