Who and What
When I think of an oasis, I think of a blue lagoon, isolated in a desert, with palm trees and birds. A small pocket of life in an otherwise desolate landscape. I’d probably be right in thinking that you picture something similar.
Putting energy in front of the word may seem quite abstract to some, and others may have a hint of what we’re getting at.
So let me clear it up for you. The way we see it, an oasis is a self-sustaining ecosystem that meets all its own needs. And that is our vision for energy in the future.
We believe in the decentralization of energy – taking the power (pun intended) away from a national grid and spreading it more evenly so towns, villages and ultimately homes – can rely on green energy provided by the planet. The three obvious advantages are – it provides energy security, is less harmful to the planet and of course to your wallet.
Those in the know may already be aware that I’m talking about something called micro-grids. If you have no clue, then give it a google but this image below might give you a preliminary idea.
As this picture shows – we’re not suggesting complete disconnection from the grid. We understand that we’re not there yet. But it ties into our overarching ideal – which ties in one way or another with everyone’s – which is to improve the future (he say’s optimistically).
So that’s a little bit about our vision. But what about our goal. How do we propose to achieve this?
This is where you come in. Here at Energy Oasis – it is our goal to have educated clients, making informed decisions.
I believe that the old adage is true – knowledge is power. And if you arm yourself with enough knowledge – then decisions you make and actions you take will be calculated and competent. Which is necessary when we’re talking about any kind of significant investment.
There is a lot of noise out there about renewables and it can be hard to see the wood through the trees. That’s why it’s so important you engage with industry experts like us – who can provide you with the right information and steer you in the right direction.
Why do you think 100 kWp system is installed – when a business only needs 50kWh. Why do you think 500 sodium lights are replaced with 500 LED like for likes? Because people simply don’t know any better. Businesses they have engaged with haven’t been interested in educating people – they’ve just been there to sell their products.
Now we’re not adverse to businesses making money. In fact, we don’t do anything for free. But our method of understand, reduce then generate provides the opportunity for businesses to maximize savings.
Let me give you a brief example. If a business is tasked with protecting themselves against the volatility of the energy market – lots of decision makers immediately think – Solar Panels will save me!
This is where we would encourage them to pause and take what we call the ‘logical approach’ before rushing out to invest tens or hundreds of thousands on solar panels.
First, understand your energy usage – through energy monitoring. Find out what asset is using what amount of energy. Businesses are still shocked to find lights are left on when they don’t need to be. That some machines can do the same job, while drawing half the power. That the compressors are running at full capacity 24/7 and don’t need to be. Just by having a visual on these kinds of things, businesses are positioned to make informed decisions that will provide the biggest impact.
Once this understanding has been found – we can implement controls to combat some of the issues mentioned above and begin to reduce energy consumption. We can replace the lighting in your warehouse with half the number of lights that were there originally and leave it brighter while costing you less (we have case studies to prove it). We can install a smart thermometer in your freezer that tells your compressor to kick in, only when necessary.
Now we know where the energy was being used and we have done everything possible to reduce it – we can begin to look at energy generation. And you know what, you won’t need anywhere near as many solar panels now you have reduced your usage. Not only will this make the equipment cheaper (as there will be less of it) but things like mandatory G99 applications will be cheaper also. As our Managing Director Mike Kaye likes to say – it’s all just common sense and math’s.
But there’s more – as if saving your business from dissolution wasn’t enough – the first step of understanding, provides you with accurate data from day one. Which means everyone can see how amazing you are! But in all seriousness – it does enable you to provide proof of working to your superiors and if your company is of a particular size, then the info required for SECR and ESOS is also taken care of.
So…to sum up who we are and what we do. We are agents of positive change, making sure we educate businesses and individuals on their journey to a more sustainable future.
